Vitrines I

1999, basswood, 12 speakers, 6 stereo audio programmes,

600 x 600 x 300 cm

Vitrines I is a large audio installation made of wooden structures that evoke the shop windows, vitrines, along a busy commercial street. Speakers embedded in the structure emit voices describing the movement of people and vehicles in the street and on the sidewalks outside the shops. Walking around the installation, the viewer will hear: “Two young women walk down the sidewalk sharing an umbrella. ... Silver car rolls slowly down street. ... Man in tank top leans against the lamppost. ...”

Exhibited in Le départ de la fiction: three installations, Oboro, Montréal, November - December 1999
