An open wooden structure containing a screen divides an empty space blocking the spectator's passage beyond it. Images of people traversing a busy public space are rear projected on the screen. The images are split vetically into three slices and divided evenly over the width of the screen. The fragmented imagery is not unlike how one sees the world when looking through a kaleidoscope. The combination of the relentless, repetitive movement with the fragmentation of the pictoral space provokes a near hypnotic state on the viewer.
This work was installed and exhibited at ESPACE 1004, Montréal, Québec, in May and June 2003
