Chemin

2000, 5 video monitors, 4 colour video programmes, 4 channels of sound, printed text

200 x 400 x 160 cm

Chemin consists of an invisible path on the floor of a gallery demarcated by 5 video monitors. The viewer my walk along the path and look at the images on either side of it. The images are close-ups of the gravel shoulders along a provincial highway. These stop-action moving images, were filmed by the artist walking, looking down. The images are all moving in the same direction, thus the viewer has the sense that the installation is moving around her. A stereo soundtrack of footsteps in gravel provides the rhythm for the moving images. This sound is periodically drowned out by a louder soundtrack of cars and trucks passing on the highway.

Exhibited at PassArt, Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Rouyn-Noranda, Québec, June - August 2000

and at Galerie de l'UQÀM, Montréal, January - February 2001
